Earth Day 2020 - Celebrating Nature - Mandala Projects
This year as part of distance learning, the NBPS Art Department decided to have students grades 2-12 celebrate Earth Week by creating Mandalas out of materials found in nature. This was an opportunity for students to get outside, explore their surroundings and also invite family members to help them create a piece of art. One of the artists that students used as an inspiration was Andy Goldsworthy, who creates sculptures that embody the celebration of all the beauty nature encompasses. Most of his sculptures are built in natural environments engaging mother nature to interact with them in an authentic way. Weather and seasons play an integral part in his structures. We asked students to use the idea of symmetry, asymmetry, color, texture, and patterns to play a part in their designs.
