First Annual Shining Star Award Dinner

To the North Branford Community,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the North Branford Education Foundation, I would like to thank the North Branford Community for its strong support of the First Annual Shining Star Award Dinner which took place on March 26,2010 at Amato’s Ristorante. The event gave all members of the North Branford Community an opportunity to applaud our FOUR HONOREES - Vin Candelora, Fran Merola, Chef Ed Slubowski, and Joanne Wentworth - as individuals who make our community strong and who are vital links in the long chain of people who contribute to the strength and success of our school system. The four honorees were delighted to see so many members of the community come out to celebrate their accomplishments and to enjoy good food and good company.

We would like to thank the following for serving as patrons and sponsors of the event: Margie and Ed Pikaart of Pikaart Visconti and Associates, P.C., Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Guilford Savings Bank, Alltac, Inc, and Christian J. Trefz of McDonalds of North Branford. We also want to thank the Liuzzi Angeloni Cheese Company of Hamden for the donation of mozzarella used in the mozzarella/tomato appetizer. We truly appreciate the efforts of Mrs. Cathy Dziekan, Dr. Grace Polivka, Mrs. Anna DeMatteo and Mrs. Kim Neubig for their assistance with the production and publication of the program. We would also like to extend our thanks to the following who contributed to the success of our raffle at the dinner: JB London Ltd of New Haven, Arnold’s Jewelers of North Haven, Hair Designs of North Branford, Traditions Golf Course and the Seasons Restaurant at the Traditions Golf Course of Wallingford, and the North Branford Public Schools.

The mission of the North Branford Education Foundation, a non-profit school and community partnership, is to work collaboratively to enhance and extend innovative enrichment opportunities for North Branford students. In order to achieve its mission, the Foundation has established the following goals: to promote partnerships between school and community; to seek new revenue streams to create innovative programs; and, to support educational opportunities.
